My landscape or seascape paintings are often generated by a passionate feeling and inspired by the sky and water.  I try to capture the movement of both elements with strong, bold brush strokes.  I want to show the viewer the beauty, power, velocity, and atmosphere I witness in nature.  I do this not by copying what is there but, rather, by expressing my feeling about what I see. I make a conscious decision when choosing my palette to try to evoke a feeling with the viewer. I try to interpret the weather with my brush strokes and choices of color. I love to paint in my studio on stormy winter days.

My abstracts are more strongly influenced by my career as an Interior and Architectural designer and are generally done with more thought to design. Before I prepare an abstract painting, I generally have a format in mind.  I lay out the composition in black and white and then determine if my subject is about shape, line, or color.  The painting might have all of these elements, or it might have no subject, just color. Before I begin to paint, I try to envision where the painting would look best, in a home or a public space.  I give considerable thought to the palette; often my choices for color are based on the seasons, a fabric, or a shape which inspired me.
